We parked at the car park in Overtoun Estate, Dumbarton, a right turn up Milton Brae, off Stirling Road; heading towards Dumbarton from Glasgow. Overtoun House within the Estate unfortunately wasn’t open this morning, but I believe they do delightful home made cakes and coffee on a Friday and Saturday (10am-4pm). The house is situated in private grounds which gave us access to numerous routes onto the Kilpatrick Hills.
We did a 5miles loop this morning which has stunning 360 views as far as Loch Lomond and over Dumbarton and the river Clyde. We gained 1,157ft onto The Crags and ran along the top before our decent back into the Estate. Underfoot was mainly grass paths with some forestry commission roads. Following the sunny weather we have had the paths were dry however it was obvious that it could be boggy after rain fall. There are many routes and some taking you as far a Duncolm and Loch Humphrey closer to Glasgow.
I find it amazing that we have this on our doorstep and so little of us have ventured up them. Its a place I could spend many hours investigating and enjoying the spectacular views over Loch Lomond and Glasgow.
Wednesday trail runners with Loch Lomond in the distance.
On the decent back down to the Estate with views of the Clyde and Dumbarton.
