I have been part of the team responsible for setting up the new Drumchapel Parkrun in Garscadden Woods East on Drummore Road. Today was the first official run round the rather challenging and hilly 5km route in the woods.
This morning brought 94 runners from as far a field as London and Edinburgh and enthusiastic volunteers to cheer them on round the course. The course is on a gravel path, three loops round the woods with a couple of hills and sharp turns to contend with. It’s a challenging route; a far cry from the flat Parkrun at Victoria Park and more on a par with the Tollcross Parkrun. The fastest runner completed the 5km in under 19minutes and the finishing runner just over 60 minutes. It was delightful to see mixed abilities at the event; from a buggy runner, walking groups as well as the fast and furious.
Following the event runners and volunteers are invited to St Mark’s Church Cafe for coffee which is a fantastic way to chat to fellow runners and reflect on the run.
I have really enjoyed being part of the community involved setting up the Parkrun. The team are very enthusiastic and keen to make it a success. Its an excellent FREE community event for all abilities. Its on every Saturday morning with a start time of 09:30. Why not come along and join in the fun; bring a friend or make it a personal goal with the support of Fit + Fabulous. For more information please go to:
